Au gré des déplacements (Düsseldorf, Berlin, Bruxelles, Californie, Iran) et des rencontres, David Caille (1986-2014) a élaboré un langage pictural singulier, à la croisée du décoratif et du figuratif, nourri aussi bien par l'histoire de la peinture moderne que par l'observation des arts de l'Islam ou des régimes de production et de circulation des images et des signes contemporains.
Fortement soutenu par une communauté d'artistes, David Caille a bénéficié de son vivant d'une visibilité quasiment inexistante dans les institutions. Mis à part les deux tableaux qui furent présentés en 2014, peu après sa mort, dans l'exposition 'FOREVER YOUNG' organisée par Marie de Gaulejac à Bruxelles, l’œuvre de David Caille est restée largement confidentielle.
En collaboration avec les proches de David Caille, Treize organise en juin 2017 la première rétrospective de ce travail. Prenant pour point de départ une exposition que l'artiste voulait organiser dans son atelier, 'Open Studio 2011-2014' sera également l'occasion de publier son premier catalogue monographique, conçu en collaboration avec Bureau Roman Seban.

In the course of his travels (Düsseldorf, Berlin, Brussels, California and Iran) and encounters, David Caille (1986-2014) developed a pictorial language that was all his own, a mix of decorative and figurative elements, inspired as much by the history of modern art as by looking at Islamic art, as well as the contemporary systems of production and circulation of images and signs.
Strongly supported by a community of artists, during his life-time, David Caille was virtually invisible as concerns the institutions. His work has remained largely a private affair, with the exception of two paintings that were shown in 2014, soon after his death, as part of the exhibition 'FOREVER YOUNG' curated by Marie de Gaulejac in Brussels.
In June 2017, with the collaboration of those who were close to him, Treize is organising the first retrospective of the work of David Caille. Taking as its starting point the idea of an exhibition the artist wanted to organise in his studio, 'Open Studio 2011-2014' will also see the publication of his first one-man catalogue, conceived in partnership with Bureau Roman Seban.
